This is just heartbreaking.
Oliver Jack Carter Lomas-Davis, the baby who captured hearts everywhere after appearing at a Las Vegas rally dressed as presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, tragically died due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) last week, according to his online memorial.
"Oliver Jack Carter Lomas-Davis was an adorable infant who brought smiles to not only his family, but to millions online," the memorial reads. "Oliver's mother, aunt and family are mourning the tragic and surprising loss of this incredible baby boy."
Oliver became an Internet sensation after his mother, Susan Lomas, posted photos on Facebook and Twitter of him meeting his Democratic doppleganger at a political rally in Las Vegas, dressed in a plaid tie, black-rimmed glasses, and wig of white hair. The photos quickly went viral, earning the adorable child the nickname "Bernie Baby."
Now he's gone too soon.
According to The Washington Post, the Sanders campaign has been notified of Oliver's death and and plans to release a statement soon. "It's very sad," said spokesperson Michael Briggs.
No one knows what causes SIDS, which kills about 3,500 infants a year, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The syndrome is a diagnosis for otherwise inexplicable deaths, and it's a frightening prospect for parents, because it can strike without warning, usually in seemingly healthy babies like Oliver.
I just feel so bad for his parents. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
