Learn about the fun, unique, and memorable fundraising event Kayak for a Cure with this blog post from InspireHealth.
We’re posting monthly blog posts from the integrative cancer care centre InspireHealth. This month, learn about the fun and unique fundraising event Kayak for a Cure.
This summer kayakers of all skill levels will be taking up their paddles and getting into the water to promote awareness, inspiration, and support for those faced with cancer. Kayak for a Cure will be raising funds and support for InspireHealth, Canada’s first and foremost integrative cancer care centre.
The 7th annual Kayak for a Cure event will be taking place this summer in five cities across North America. The events in Vancouver and Victoria will directly benefit those people with a cancer diagnosis who come to InspireHealth—100 percent of funds raised from this event will go to the organization!
Last year the Vancouver event alone raised an overwhelming $50,000, and has set an ambitious goal to surpass that figure this year! To date, the collective events have raised more than $250,000 toward cancer awareness and research.
The event was founded by Mark Starkey, whose hope was to provide an outlet for families and loved ones who were faced with a cancer diagnosis. He was looking to build a support system that was fun, inspiring, and involved the great outdoors. For Mark, it was his grandmother who had been diagnosed with cancer. Cancer has touched us all in some way—paddling in the event can also be a wonderful way to honour or support a loved one.
This summer adventure is open to the public, and to paddlers of all levels. Kayakers are divided into groups based on experience and are supported by professional safety guides. You can join individually, you can form a corporate team, or you can form a team with friends and family—it is up to you! It is a unique, fun, and memorable way to make a difference and support an amazing cause.
The event will be followed by a fabulous beach party and barbecue for all paddlers and their loved ones. This will be an unforgettable summer day, and now is the time to get involved!
